Mallorca day 3 - Cuber Reservoir and Lluc
This morning, we hired a car with the intention of driving to Cuber Reservoir, supposedly about an hour away from where we are staying. After a longer drive than expected, we arrived on the site at around midday. From the car park, we saw several Black Vultures soaring high above, as well as a single Red Kite. Walking around the lake, we saw very few birds in the heat - however a pair of Cirl Buntings were stunning and our first ever! There was also a good number of Sardinian Warblers, two Ravens and a single Red Kite.
After this we headed to Lluc, where we hoped to see Wrynecks. When we arrived we headed to the cafe to refuel before having a wander around the orchard near the picnic area. We didn't see or hear any Wrynecks but mum spotted a stunning Firecrest - our first. After seeing this bird we were able to spot more, and in the end we were treated with fabulous views of a stunning male preening a few feet away from us.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at at Can Cuarassa where we saw a male Garganey, a Yellow Wagtail, a cracking Hoopoe and an Osprey which flew high over.
At the hotel we saw a White Wagtail - my first encounter with the nominate subspecies.
